Nankei Kyusu Tea pot -Teppatsu-

By not applying glaze on the inside, the surface of the teapot is uneven, which moderates the astringency, making the tea tastes milder and more mellow.

As the teapot is used the surface of the teapot's color will slowly deepen overtime. The built in hand crafter strainers are at the base of the spout which works as a strainer. Fine tea leaves/powders can pass through, the adding traditionally textured mouthfeel to the cup. If you would like a clearer cup, pour the tea through another strainer before serving serve.

: A kyusu tea pot is made with a traditional Banko potter ware technique in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture. A minimalistic, timeless design originally announced 50 years ago, holds the charm of a true classic that resonates with modern lifestyle.

The matte black "Kuro-neri" is made with a clay rich in iron, and the non-glazed baking encourages the iron contents to show its beautiful, dark color- it is also suitable for daily use as the dark color helps tea stains to be less visible.

The white beige "Shiro-neri" is made with a clay Haku-dei(white mud) that was widely popular in the Taisho era, to recreate the classic beauty. The gentle and mild color complements your table at any time of the day.

*On "Kuro-neri" you may notice a reddish colored ring at the rim of the pot, where the lid sits- this is made through a process called "suri-awase (literally translates as "rub together")", to adjust the lid and the pot to fit perfectly, minimizing any gap or tilts. The red color is the clay's original color revealed.

The pattern on the cups are called crazing. The glaze reveals this unique pattern of crack that occurs from how the clay and glaze shrunk in different rate throughout the making process. Then, sumi ink, a charcoal based ink is applied to darken and compliment the crazing across the milky white body.

As the craze allows the color of the liquid that is held inside the cup seep through between its micro-fine lines, the pattern will turn deeper in color as the cup is used overtime. You may notice a "pinging" sound until the initial crazing process settles down, but this is not a sign of defect or cracking.

Christmas Gifts were a win

I ordered the teapot and cuo for my son for Christmas, it arrived in plenty of time and perfect condition. It has already had so much use. He absolutely loved it. He had previously purchased the Sencha tea but didn't like using my teapot.

Kyusu White Beige

As always, a wonderful product from Kurasu. It arrived quickly and in perfect shape which is no small feat being a delicate item to come to Dallas from Japan. The holes in the filter are just a little wide and so sometimes a little more of the tea leaves come out. This is not a problem for me though because I believe it enhances the mouthfeel of the tea. But I could imagine someone who does not drink sencha often or in traditional ways being concerned about this. Either way it is a beautiful and well made Kyusu and I love serving tea with it.

Pretty design, but always spills

It's a very nice and good looking pot. But regardless how carefully you try to pour, it always drips on the table when you start pouring and when you stop. It creates quite a mess. :-(
Could be mine is faulty production.
